The Neighborhood Harvest is Virginia's premier direct-to-customer delivery service of greens, produce, and proteins from our own greenhouse and commissary kitchen as well as a hand-picked network of local farmers and producers. We pride ourselves on selling many specialty food items and delicious prepared meals from our commissary kitchen, located in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The Commissary Kitchen Assistant & Packager is a key member of the kitchen production team. As a member of our commissary kitchen, you will be able to enjoy free nights and weekends as we operate almost exclusively during daytime weekday hours. This individual will be responsible for assisting in many aspects of our commissary kitchen, primarily in the preparation of foods for production and packaging of completed products for retail sale. This position provides a large opportunity and potential to learn and grow within the kitchen and move up to Commissary Cook or to a Team Leader position.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, portion and package products produced in the commissary kitchen for retail sale.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace throughout the day and in between tasks.
- Always work with food safety and sanitation in mind.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and employ proper procedures for allergen control (training provided)
- Ensure product is cooled within USDA/FDA guidelines and recorded on appropriate logs (training provided)
- Assist in daily cleaning tasks at the end of shift and wash all tools/equipment used during production.
- Assist in any other tasks that may arise from the Commissary Kitchen Manager or Commissary Kitchen Team Leaders
Requirements
- Have a reliable form of transportation to ensure punctuality for every shift.
- Maintain a steady pace with attention to detail.
- Works well in a team and independently.
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Able to stand for long periods.
- Experience in the food service industry preferred
Work Schedule
- Monday - Friday, no nights & weekends
- Full time or part time position available
