Description
As one of the nation’s largest Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs, BakerRipley Neighborhood Tax Centers (NTC) builds community stability through its free quality tax preparation and connecting families to resources. Each year, NTC prepares over 36,000 tax returns for low-income families at over 20 locations in high-need neighborhoods across the Greater Houston Area. Qualifications
Job Summary:
The Tax Preparer is responsible for preparing accurate and quality tax returns, conducting quality reviews of tax returns prepared by volunteers, and assisting the Tax Center Manager in answering tax-related questions for clients and volunteers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Interview taxpayer to determine if all income, deductions, and allowable credits are claimed
Prepare only those tax returns for which training was provided
Maintain strict confidentiality of taxpayer information and documentation
Ensure on-site quality review is performed on completed returns prior to taxpayer signature
Follow NTC procedures and guidelines as instructed at training and tax site locations
Qualifications:
Requires a detail-oriented, organized, efficient individual who can multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Must complete training and pass the Advanced IRS Volunteer Tax Preparer Certification
Must be willing to assist all taxpayers within the VITA/TCE scope
