Work closely with the Senior Business Development & Marketing Manager (Intellectual Property), and the Firmwide BD & Marketing team to initiate, coordinate, and/or implement marketing and business development initiatives for the firmwide Intellectual Property Practice Group. This position reports directly to the Senior Business Development & Marketing Manager (Intellectual Property). This is a hybrid position, for our our Orange County, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, or Washington D.C. office.

- In collaboration with the Senior Business Development & Marketing Manager (Intellectual Property), manage practice team events/conferences, including: establishing and managing budget, site selection, development of invite list, invitation process, event logistics, site set-up, CLE planning and post event follow-up. Set up and monitor required technology for virtual events and webinars.
- Work closely with Firm lawyers and BD & Marketing department personnel to create client-focused brochures and other collateral and pitch materials that meet attorney specifications. For client proposal responses, gather and analyze existing relevant materials, provide competitive intelligence in conjunction with research team, identify and gather firmwide human resources and financial information as needed, gain final BD & Marketing department and lawyer approvals, proof and correct errors, format for consistency and visual appeal while upholding Firm branding standards, and coordinate the printing and timely delivery of business development and marketing materials. Share best practices in the BD & Marketing department’s knowledge base.
- Interview all partners for their experience and background to learn their practices and have information on hand as needed for pitches and RFPs.
- Work with the Senior Manager and Practice Group Chair to prepare welcome emails for all new hire attorneys/patent agents.
- Assist with planning and on-site support for IP-specific retreats/firm retreats.
- Draft Chambers, Legal 500 and other IP-specific submissions for rankings and directories.
- Maintain practice team experience, including collection of matter summaries for use in the Firm’s experience database and various directory reporting efforts, ensuring all marketing materials are up-to-date monthly.
- Regularly update all marketing materials for the IP practice group/teams.
- Prepare and distribute the weekly IP newsletter with all relevant data/events/speaking engagements/wins/nominations/blog posts under the direction of the Senior IP Business & Development Marketing Manager

- Assist in drafting the annual recap of the IP Group Year in Review/BHIPP for internal and external use, working alongside the Senior IP Business Development & Marketing Manager.
- Support Industry Teams under IP as needed working with the Industry Team Manager and Senior IP Manager
- Address and add as needed, information regarding the IP Group to the firm website, including Enterprise Issues and new team webpages, while also ensuring all webpage content is up-to-date for the Practice Group.
- In coordination with the Senior Business Development & Marketing Manager (Intellectual Property), orchestrate sponsorship/membership opportunities, including: vetting opportunities, arranging for payment, managing ad production, and arranging events, conferences, speaking opportunities, log-ins/passwords, marketing materials, etc., for these initiatives.
- Collaborate with the appropriate team members to maintain accurate and effective web content for the practice teams and attorneys.
- Support the integration of lateral attorneys, including bio creation and posting, Firm photo, press release and intranet story, announcements, community involvement database, business development planning, and contacts integration.
- Assist the Senior Business Development & Marketing Manager (Intellectual Property) in staying abreast of news about client development targets in order to suggest opportunities and approaches for client expansion or market penetration. In tandem with the Competitive Intelligence team, conduct research on such targets as needed. Create development activity reports.
- Respond to requests and questions from lawyers, administrative staff, and vendors; provide excellent customer service; and follow-through on requests to ensure needs are met.
- Assist the Intellectual Property Practice Group Chair and Senior Business Development & Marketing Manager where needed with Group-wide practice development projects and initiatives.
- Travel as needed to client, firm and practice group events
- Other duties as requested and assigned.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field with at least five years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Law firm experience highly desirable.
- Intellectual Property practice experience a plus.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Proven aptitude to learn new software applications.
- Ability to speak effectively with all levels of clients and professional and support staff. Interpersonal communication skills necessary to maintain effective relationships with partners, attorneys, clients and staff, and to exhibit a high degree of responsiveness, diplomacy and professionalism in these interactions.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from all levels of professional and support staff, clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
