Position Summary
The Senior Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, comprehensive, and competitive cost estimates for construction projects from initial concept through final bid. This role analyzes plans and specifications, performs quantity takeoffs, solicits and evaluates subcontractor and supplier proposals, identifies project risks and opportunities, and collaborates with preconstruction, operations, design, and leadership teams. The Senior Estimator also supports value-engineering efforts, maintains historical cost data, and helps ensure each estimate aligns with the project’s scope, schedule, quality expectations, and financial objectives.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure estimates meet project requirements and budgets.
- Review subcontractor bids and negotiate pricing to ensure competitive and fair costs.
- Maintain and update estimating databases and cost records.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies related to project costs.
- Lead and mentor junior estimators and support staff.
- Stay current with industry trends, pricing, and best practices.
Qualifications
- 5 Years experience as a Senior Estimator in the construction industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
