Concrete Crew

Position Summary

The Concrete Crew Member performs a wide range of concrete construction, repair, demolition, and related field activities as assigned by the Foreman, Superintendent, Project Manager, or other designated supervisor.

This is a general concrete crew position, not a single-task or specialty-only position. Employees are expected to work as part of the crew and perform any reasonable work necessary to safely and efficiently complete the project. Individual assignments may vary from day to day based on project requirements, crew needs, schedule, site conditions, and management direction.

Prior hands-on experience with ADA-compliant curb ramps and related concrete work is required. This experience is a qualification for the position and does not limit the employee's responsibility to perform other concrete, construction, labor, or support duties assigned by supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform concrete construction, demolition, repair, replacement, and finishing work.
  • Participate in the construction and reconstruction of ADA curb ramps, sidewalks, curb and gutter, driveways, slabs, aprons, landings, and other concrete improvements.
  • Assist with layout, measurements, elevations, grades, slopes, transitions, and other requirements associated with concrete and ADA curb-ramp construction.
  • Set, adjust, brace, strip, clean, and maintain concrete forms.
  • Place, spread, consolidate, screed, float, edge, finish, texture, and cure concrete as required.
  • Install or assist with detectable warning surfaces and other components associated with accessible pedestrian facilities.
  • Saw cut, chip, break, remove, load, haul, and dispose of existing concrete, asphalt, base material, soil, and construction debris.
  • Perform excavation, grading, backfilling, compaction, base preparation, and general site preparation.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, compactors, saws, demolition equipment, and other equipment for which the employee is trained and authorized.
  • Load, unload, move, stage, organize, and secure tools, materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Perform jobsite setup, traffic-control support, barricade placement, cleanup, and general housekeeping as assigned.
  • Assist equipment operators, finishers, form setters, laborers, truck drivers, and other crew members as needed.
  • Protect completed work and surrounding improvements from damage.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, defective equipment, quality concerns, or conditions that may affect the work.
  • Follow plans, specifications, project requirements, safety procedures, and instructions from supervision.
  • Perform general construction and labor duties necessary to support the crew and completion of the project.
  • Perform other duties and tasks assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated field experience with concrete construction - approximately 2 years.
  • Previous hands-on ADA curb-ramp construction experience required - approximately 1 year.
  • Ability to understand grades, slopes, measurements, and basic concrete layout.
  • Ability to use common concrete and construction tools safely.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a crew and accept changing work assignments.
  • Ability and willingness to perform general construction labor in addition to skilled concrete work.
  • Ability to follow company safety policies and project-specific requirements.
  • Reliable attendance and ability to report to assigned projects as scheduled.

Physical and Work Requirements

The position is field-based and may require the employee to:

  • Work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, reach, and work in physically demanding positions.
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, and position construction materials, tools, and equipment consistent with the physical requirements established for the position.
  • Work around construction equipment, vehicles, concrete operations, dust, noise, vibration, and uneven terrain.
  • Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment.
  • Work varying schedules, including overtime, nights, weekends, or modified shifts when required by project needs and permitted by company policy and applicable law.
