Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and maintaining a sterile environment using aseptic techniques
- Handle dogs and cats, with confidence, ensuring safe restraint and handling to reduce stress and injury
- Perform laboratory tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and other diagnostic procedures to support accurate diagnoses
- Conduct animal husbandry tasks including feeding, medicating, and maintaining cleanliness of kennels and treatment areas
- Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and assisting with pet dental cleanings and treatments
- Administer medications via various routes including animal catheterization while adhering to veterinary terminology and safety protocols
- Maintain detailed records of patient treatments, lab results, and procedural notes in compliance with clinic standards
Skills
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and critical care practices
- Laboratory experience including sample collection, processing, and analysis for diagnostic purposes
- Skilled in animal restraint techniques to ensure safety during examinations or procedures
- Familiarity with X-ray operation and interpretation to support diagnostic imaging needs
- Ability to communicate clearly with clients about pet care instructions using veterinary terminology
- Experience with aseptic techniques during surgical or invasive procedures ensures infection control standards are met
