Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Operates overhead electric traveling cranes to transport and position parts, raw material, subassemblies, assemblies and equipment for various operations in the production department.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Overhead traveling crane (cab and floor controlled), slings, cables, chains, spreader bars, etc.
MATERIALS:
Government and customer furnished, purchased and plant produced parts/subassemblies/assemblies. Various types of related parts, metal castings, forgings, plates, weldments, structural shapes, welding equipment, scrap containers, etc.
SOURCE OF SUPERVISION:
Process Supervisor, Assistant Process Supervisor or may be directed by Lead Person or Self-Directed Work Team.
DIRECTION EXERCISED:
None
WORKING PROCEDURE:
- Receives instructions and work orders from Process Supervisor, Assistant. Process Supervisor, Lead Person or Self-Directed Work Team.
- Checks crane and other lifting equipment such as cables, controls, etc. to assure safe operating conditions.
- Receives signals from personnel and lead persons for crane lifts being made.
- Observes crane hook-up for proper and safe hooking procedure while operating cab crane.
- Operates crane controls for speed, travel and hoist requirements to transport and position lifts as a service requirement in the production department.
- Makes crane lifts such as fixtures, machines, plant equipment, etc. to assist maintenance personnel as required.
- When operating floor controlled cranes, performs hooking for lifts according to proper and safe hooking procedures.
- As occasions demand, operates controls to assist maintenance personnel in crane repairs.
- Reports condition of crane lifting devices and accessories to the area supervisor.
- Uses personal computer or other data acquisition devices as required.
- Keeps work area safe and clean.
