We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Lead Generator Installation Technician / Field Operations Lead to oversee and execute the installation of generator systems across various construction sites and commercial facilities. This role combines technical expertise with leadership, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. As a key team member, you will coordinate field operations, manage installation teams, and ensure compliance with all electrical codes and safety procedures. Your hands-on experience with electrical systems, schematics, and construction site work will drive successful project outcomes while fostering a culture of safety and excellence.
What You'll Do
As our Lead Generator Technician, you'll be responsible for leading our installation team while ensuring every project is completed safely, efficiently, and to our high standards of quality.
Leadership
- Lead residential and commercial generator installation projects from start to finish.
- Mentor, train, and develop apprentice technicians through hands-on coaching and leadership.
- Lead by example, promoting professionalism, teamwork, and accountability.
- Foster a positive work environment where safety, communication, and continuous improvement are top priorities.
Project & Schedule Management
- Manage the installation schedule to ensure projects stay on track and customers are informed.
- Coordinate daily job assignments and field activities with the installation team.
- Ensure projects are completed on time while maintaining exceptional workmanship.
- Identify and resolve installation challenges before they impact the schedule.
Inventory & Purchasing
- Monitor inventory levels for generators, transfer switches, and installation materials.
- Order generators, parts, and job supplies to maintain efficient operations.
- Ensure trucks and warehouse inventory are properly stocked and organized.
- Help reduce delays by planning material needs in advance.
Customer & Vendor Coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact throughout the installation process.
- Coordinate with utility companies for meter pulls and reconnects.
- Schedule and coordinate electrical inspections with local inspection agencies.
- Communicate with customers regarding installation schedules, project updates, and final walkthroughs.
- Coordinate with propane or natural gas providers when necessary to keep projects moving.
Technical Responsibilities
- Lead residential and commercial standby generator installations from start to finish.
- Read and interpret installation plans, electrical diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
- Ensure every installation meets all applicable NFPA standards, National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements, local building codes, and manufacturer installation guidelines.
- Verify all projects are completed safely, professionally, and in compliance before final inspection.
- Perform quality control inspections to ensure workmanship meets Backup Power LLC's standards.
- Troubleshoot installation issues and implement effective solutions in the field.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in generator installation, electrical, or a related skilled trade.
- Previous experience leading installation crews.
- Strong understanding of residential electrical systems and standby generator installations.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 37, NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), NFPA 110, and other applicable codes governing standby power systems.
- Experience ensuring projects comply with all applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
- Experience scheduling jobs and coordinating multiple projects.
- Experience managing inventory and ordering materials.
- Ability to mentor and train apprentice technicians.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift 75 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
