Backstage Library Works is seeking detail-oriented team members to help arrange and shelve materials at the new Deschutes Public Library’s new Central Library. This project involves organizing the collection using the Wayfinder classification system, ensuring items are easy to find, accurately shelved, and visually well-organized. Ideal candidates are reliable, comfortable working on their feet, and able to follow clear directions in a team setting.
This is a full-time, temporary position requiring 40 hours per week, including one 30-minute unpaid lunch break and two 15-minute paid breaks each day. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, typically during first-shift business hours.
The position is estimated to last approximately 9 weeks.
Compensation for this role is $25.00 per hour.
Duties:
- Arrange and shelve library materials in the new Central Library location
- Shelve books and media using the Wayfinder classification system
- Read shelves to ensure items are in correct order and easy to find
- Shift and organize materials to optimize space and flow
- Handle materials carefully while following preservation guidelines
- Work collaboratively with project supervisors and teammates
- Follow daily project goals, schedules, and quality standards
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks consistently and accurately
- Strong organizational skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new tasks
- Professional attitude and excellent work ethic
- Reliable transportation for commuting to the workplace
Preferred Additional Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in a related field
- Experience working in a library environment
- Experience in a production-oriented setting, demonstrating efficiency and meeting deadlines
