The Accountant position at Backer Hotwatt, Inc. is responsible for performing a full range of Accounts Payable (A/P), Accounts Receivable (A/R), and general accounting functions. Working under the direction of the Accounting Manager, this role supports daily accounting operations, maintains accurate financial records, assists with monthly close, and provides essential reporting and analysis to support the company’s financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable (AP)
- Review all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment
- Enter A/P invoices and maintain A/P reports and spreadsheets
- Process vendor payments and obtain check signatures
- Respond to vendor inquiries and maintain the vendor database
- Research and resolve payment discrepancies
- Weekly and monthly reconciliation of A/P
Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Perform daily invoicing and generate sales reports as needed
- Post daily cash receipts and prepare deposits
- Process and apply credit card payments
- Issue customer returns and credits
- Respond to customer inquiries
- Process new customer applications for FM approval and maintain customer database
- Perform collections calls, send statements, and maintain call logs
- Weekly and monthly reconciliation of A/R
General Ledger (GL) & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain reports and spreadsheets for weekly G/L entry
- Assist with monthly closings
- Perform weekly and monthly G/L account analysis and reconciliation
- Prepare analysis of A/R and A/P when needed
- Compile internal management reports from ADP
- Assist with special projects and inventory-related assignments
- Maintain all accounting files and document management systems
- Process weekly payroll data to ADP and distribute daily attendance reports
Other Duties
- Make adjustments to accounts as needed
- Support month-end reporting and general accounting functions
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Accounting Manager
What We Are Looking For
Requirements:
- A.S. degree or higher in Accounting or related field
- 3 years of accounting experience
- Knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Office products
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ADP or other payroll systems
- Prior experience in manufacturing accounting
- Familiarity with G/L account analysis and reconciliations
