Duties
- Assist licensed physical therapists in developing and executing individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
- Provide direct patient care through therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques such as trigger point therapy, and modalities to reduce pain and enhance mobility.
- Monitor patient progress, document responses to treatments, and communicate observations to the supervising therapist for ongoing plan adjustments.
- Support patients across various settings including inpatient units, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, home health environments, acute care hospitals, and outpatient clinics specializing in orthopedics, geriatrics, pediatrics, and rehabilitation.
- Educate patients and their families on physiotherapy exercises, injury prevention strategies, discharge planning, and self-care techniques to foster independence.
- Maintain accurate medical terminology records and detailed documentation of care plans, treatment sessions, and patient outcomes in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate discharge planning and ensure seamless transitions between care settings.
- Utilize specialized skills such as trigger point therapy to alleviate muscle tension and improve tissue health for enhanced recovery outcomes.
- Uphold safety standards by conducting routine inspections of treatment areas and ensuring proper use of equipment.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program with certification or licensure as required by state law.
- Demonstrated knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and physiotherapy principles essential for effective patient care.
- Proven experience working in inpatient settings or skilled nursing facilities; experience in home health or outpatient clinics is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with a broad range of clinical environments including acute care hospitals, outpatient orthopedic clinics, geriatrics programs, pediatric rehabilitation, and specialized therapy services.
- Strong skills in manual therapy techniques such as trigger point therapy along with comprehensive understanding of physiotherapy modalities.
- Ability to develop and implement effective care plans tailored to diverse patient populations including pediatrics and geriatrics.
- Excellent communication skills for educating patients and collaborating with healthcare teams effectively.
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks including standing for extended periods, assisting with patient mobility, and performing manual therapies safely.
