Janitorial Attendant – Rest Area Facilities (Indoor & Outdoor)
Location: Interstate Rest Areas #15 NB & #16 SB I-29 Mile Marker 319

Pay Rate: Starting at $15.00/hour with advancement opportunities
Exact Schedule: Thursday - Saturday 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM with the opportunity to cover shifts if needed.
About the Role
We are hiring a Janitorial Attendant to maintain interstate rest areas across Iowa. This position includes both indoor and outdoor cleaning responsibilities, ensuring facilities are safe, sanitary, and welcoming for millions of travelers each year. Responsibilities:
Inside Duties
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, ADA stalls, lavatories, partitions, and adult changing stations each shift.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and polish floors using provided equipment.
- Keep mirrors, windows, doors, walls, vents, lighting, and drinking fountains spotless.
- Empty trash, sanitary bins, and recycling regularly.
- Maintain neat and secure utility rooms; check fire extinguishers monthly.
- Log daily cleaning activities, report incidents, and manage lost-and-found items.
- Clean visitor areas including display cases, vending machine surfaces, maps, and signs.
Outside Duties
- Pick up litter daily across rest area grounds, sidewalks, ramps, and parking lots.
- Empty and clean outdoor trash receptacles and picnic tables.
- Wash and disinfect picnic tables and pads during warm weather seasons.
- Assist with flag raising/lowering, kiosk upkeep, and light freight deliveries.
- Care for flowers and landscaped areas (watering, weeding, mulching).
- Clear snow and ice from sidewalks, entrances, and handicap areas; apply ice melt as directed.
- Inspect parked vehicles for safety concerns and call 911 in emergencies.
- Report vandalism, property damage, or maintenance needs promptly.
