Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Test & Trials Worker to troubleshoot, test, and validate electrical circuits and systems on vessels, including sea trials. The role ensures that all electrical systems meet customer requirements and regulatory compliance standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical background, experience with motor controls, and a minimum of 4 years of marine electrical or plant electrician experience.
Must-Have Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of electrical test and trials experience, preferably in the marine field
Strong knowledge of motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), transformers, relays, AC/DC voltage systems, and alarm/control circuits
Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings and specifications
Hands-on experience troubleshooting and rewiring:
Motors and motor controllers
Relay panels
VFDs and transformers
Alarm systems and float switches
Control circuits (e-stops, TLIs)
Skilled in using multimeters to measure volts, amps, resistance, and continuity
Ability to perform electrical testing and sea trials
Knowledge of shipbuilding processes, regulatory standards, and safety protocols
Preferred Qualifications
Experience collaborating with mechanical Test & Trials teams on system integration
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong communication skills with customers, managers, and interdisciplinary teams
Experience preparing test documentation and reports
Willingness to participate in overtime work as needed
Key Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive electrical testing, including sea trials
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and correct electrical circuit issues
Rewire and troubleshoot motors, motor controllers, relay panels, VFDs, transformers, alarm systems, and control circuits
Conduct testing using process meters, simulators, and decade boxes
Collaborate with mechanical Test & Trials personnel on system integration
Document deficiencies and prepare regular and special test status reports
Ensure adherence to all company safety, environmental, and quality procedures
Maintain punctual and regular attendance
Physical and Environmental Requirements
Ability to work in confined spaces
Capable of climbing and working at elevations over 5 feet
Must be able to wear and work with a respirator, when required
