About the Position
We are seeking a motivated and detail‑driven Security Specialist to lead the oversight and coordination of physical security and access control systems across critical facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for a security professional who brings hands‑on experience, thrives in construction‑phase environments, and understands how effective security enables uninterrupted operations. Location: Washington. DC (On-site)
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordination and oversight of all building access control systems
- Coordination of secure laboratory and body storage access requirements
- Oversight of perimeter fencing, access gates, and controlled entry systems
- Coordination of site security camera systems and surveillance infrastructure
- Verification of secure door hardware, electrified locking devices, and card reader installations
- Review and coordination of security-related submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings
- Oversight of security system testing, commissioning, and final acceptance
- Verification that all security installations comply with agency requirements
- Performing walkthrough inspections of secured openings and controlled spaces
- Reviewing low-voltage rough-ins and conduit pathways
- Verifying security device locations and mounting heights
- Coordinating access requirements for subcontractors and vendors
- Reviewing camera coverage areas and identifying blind spots
- Monitoring temporary site security and after-hours access
- Participating in coordination meetings and quality control inspections
- Assisting with final testing and owner training for access control and CCTV systems
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Engineering, Information Systems, Facilities Management, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Formal training in physical security systems, electronic security, or facilities security operations is highly desirable.
- 5–10 years of progressively responsible experience in physical security systems for complex facilities such as: Government buildings, Laboratories, Medical examiner, forensic, or evidence-handling facilities
- Demonstrated experience with: Access control systems (card readers, electrified locks, badging systems), CCTV and video surveillance systems, Perimeter protection (fencing, gates, controlled vehicular access)
- Experience working in active construction or renovation environments, coordinating with: Architects and engineers, Low-voltage and electrical contractors, Facilities, IT, and security stakeholders
- Working knowledge of: Electronic access control hardware and software
- Secure door hardware, strikes, maglocks, panic hardware, and fail-safe/fail-secure principles
- IP-based camera systems, camera placement, and coverage analysis
- Conduit routing, low-voltage rough-ins, and raceway coordination
- Review and comment on security drawings, submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings
- Verify compliance with design intent and operational requirements
- Coordinate testing, commissioning, and final acceptance of security systems
Security Clearance & Suitability:
- Ability to pass a background investigation
- Eligible for site access to sensitive, restricted, or chain-of-custody areas
- Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and integrity
