Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and versatile Per Diem Nurse to join our healthcare team, providing flexible, high-quality patient care across various clinical settings. Duties
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed health histories to inform clinical decisions.
- Administer medications via injections, IV infusions, and other routes following strict aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Perform specialized procedures such as suturing, catheterization (urinary and vascular), tube feeding management, and ostomy care with precision and confidence.
- Manage acute pain and chronic conditions by implementing appropriate pain management strategies tailored to individual patient needs.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation and coding (ICD-10/ICD-9/CPT).
- Provide triage services in urgent care or emergency room settings by evaluating patient symptoms and determining priority levels for treatment.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for discharge planning, case management, and long-term care arrangements including hospice & palliative medicine.
- Support infection control practices through specimen collection/processing, laboratory experience, and adherence to CDC guidelines.
- Assist with diagnostic evaluations using medical imaging or sonography when required.
- Educate patients on health coaching topics such as medication administration, nutrition, disease prevention, and managing disabilities or dementia care.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient confidentiality at all times.
- Adapt quickly to various clinical environments including ICU, trauma centers (Level I & II), pediatric units (PICU), neonatal ventilator support, or outpatient clinics.
Requirements
- Valid nursing license with current state registration; additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
- Proven experience in diverse healthcare settings including hospital medicine, emergency medicine, critical care (ICU/Trauma), long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, or home care environments.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and electronic medical records systems like Epic or Cerner.
- Experience with specialized procedures such as suturing, IV insertion/infusion therapy, catheterization (including Foley catheters), ventilator management or gastrostomy tube feeding is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with infectious disease protocols and infection control standards; experience working with patients with developmental disabilities or memory care needs is a plus.
- Ability to perform physical assessments accurately while demonstrating excellent patient care skills in fast-paced environments like emergency rooms or urgent care clinics.
- Strong communication skills for effective triage and patient education; compassionate approach toward geriatrics and behavioral health populations.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts on a per diem basis; willingness to travel between different healthcare facilities as needed. Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
