Job Summary:
The Compounding Pharmacy Lab Assistant supports pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in preparing customized medications by maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment. This role includes preparing equipment and supplies, assisting with non-sterile and sterile compounding processes, maintaining inventory, and following all safety and quality assurance procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and sanitize compounding workstations, equipment, and supplies according to established protocols.
- Assist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with medication compounding under direct supervision.
- Measure, label, package, and organize ingredients and finished products as directed.
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and compounding areas.
- Monitor and replenish inventory of chemicals, medications, supplies, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Receive, inspect, and stock incoming inventory.
- Maintain accurate documentation, logs, and records required by state and federal regulations.
- Follow USP <795>, USP <797>, USP <800>, OSHA, and pharmacy safety guidelines.
- Dispose of hazardous and pharmaceutical waste in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Perform routine quality assurance checks and report any discrepancies or equipment issues.
- Support pharmacy staff with administrative tasks related to compounding operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to follow written procedures and maintain confidentiality.
- Basic computer and recordkeeping skills.
