The VP, Equipment Finance Underwriting Manager is responsible for leading the credit underwriting function for the Equipment Finance business. This role oversees complex equipment leasing transactions, evaluates credit risk, and provides sound credit recommendations to senior leadership while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal credit policies. The position also manages and develops underwriting staff, monitors portfolio quality, and partners closely with Relationship Managers and senior stakeholders to support business growth.

About This Job
The VP, Equipment Finance Underwriting Manager is responsible for leading the credit underwriting function for the Equipment Finance business. This role oversees complex equipment leasing transactions, evaluates credit risk, and provides sound credit recommendations to senior leadership while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal credit policies. The position also manages and develops underwriting staff, monitors portfolio quality, and partners closely with Relationship Managers and senior stakeholders to support business growth.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the underwriting pipeline for Equipment Finance, including complex and high-value transactions
- Oversee credit analysis of new and existing clients, assessing financial condition, creditworthiness, risks, and mitigants
- Structure and review equipment finance transactions and assist in complex deal negotiations
- Manage due diligence for all new equipment lease applications
- Ensure timely monthly and quarterly reviews of borrower performance and covenant compliance; escalate concerns as needed
- Partner directly with clients, Relationship Managers, and senior management to resolve credit questions and issues
- Provide input on product features, benefits, and marketing initiatives to support business development
- Prepare and review credit memoranda, term sheets, committee submissions, and other credit-related documentation
- Monitor portfolio quality, turnaround times, and underwriting standards
- Recommend improvements to policies, processes, and systems to increase efficiency and effectiveness
- Ensure all credit commitments are documented in accordance with approvals and legal guidelines
- Provide leadership, training, and performance feedback to underwriting support staff
- Conduct industry, geographic, and market research as needed
- Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives as required
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 10 years of banking experience in lending, underwriting, or related credit roles
- Proven experience underwriting complex credits and structuring equipment finance transactions
- Strong knowledge of federal banking regulations and credit risk management practices
- Experience developing and applying credit policies and underwriting guidelines
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing or mentoring underwriting staff
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with senior leadership and business partners
