We are seeking an experienced and skilled Directional Drill Crew Supervisor with a Class-A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to lead our directional drilling crews for fiber optic construction projects. As a medium-sized fiber optic construction company specializing in conduit boring and installation, we are dedicated to providing high-quality solutions for our clients. The Directional Drill Crew Supervisor will play a critical role in overseeing the safe and efficient operation of directional drilling crews while also utilizing their CDL for transportation needs.
Responsibilities:
1. Directional Drilling Crew Supervision:
- Lead and supervise a crew of directional drill operators and technicians in the execution of directional drilling operations.
- Ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations during drilling activities.
- Monitor drilling progress, evaluate ground conditions, and make necessary adjustments to achieve desired drilling outcomes.
- Provide guidance and technical support to crew members, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
2. CDL Truck Operation:
- Utilize the Class A CDL to operate and drive trucks, transporting directional drilling equipment, materials, and crew members to job sites.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of trucks and equipment to ensure safe operation and compliance with regulations.
- Safely and efficiently navigate to and from job sites, following established routes and traffic regulations.
- Assist in loading and unloading equipment and materials as necessary.
3. Team Leadership and Training:
- Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to directional drill operators and technicians.
- Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and high performance within the drilling crew.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to enhance individual and team performance.
- Ensure proper staffing levels and optimize resource allocation for efficient drilling operations.
4. Quality Control and Inspection:
- Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure adherence to project specifications and industry standards during drilling activities.
- Conduct regular inspections to monitor drilling progress, verify drilling accuracy, and identify potential issues.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders and engineers to address quality concerns and implement corrective actions as necessary.
5. Safety and Compliance:
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations during drilling operations.
- Conduct safety briefings and toolbox talks, emphasizing safe work practices and hazard awareness.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, or near-misses related to drilling operations and implement preventive measures.
6. Equipment Maintenance and Inventory:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of drilling equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and minimal downtime.
- Collaborate with the procurement team to manage inventory levels of drilling supplies, parts, and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance activities, and inventory management.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as the company needs change.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or relevant vocational training is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Directional Drill Crew Supervisor or similar role
- Valid Class-A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- In-depth knowledge of directional drilling techniques, equipment, and best practices.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a crew.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially in challenging drilling situations.
- Knowledge of project plans, specifications, and safety regulations relevant to directional drilling activities.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting directional drilling equipment and machinery.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
