What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor position at Axiom Learning?

AXIOM LEARNING

Academic Instructor & Tutor

Wellesley and/or Concord, MA · Part-time, W2

About AXIOM LEARNING

Axiom Learning operates two established, premium K–12 tutoring and test preparation centers in Wellesley and Concord. We work one-on-one with students from kindergarten through grade 12 on academic subjects, executive functioning, and standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, HSPT).We're a small, research-driven team that takes a collaborative approach to teaching — pairing strong subject-matter expertise with genuine curiosity about how each student learns best. Our clients are motivated families who invest seriously in their children's education and come to us for measurable, meaningful results.

The role

You'll work one-on-one with students, delivering sessions that are personalized to each learner. Sessions happen primarily in the afternoons, evenings, and on weekends. Key responsibilities include:

● Train in comprehensive, research-backed programs on the underlying executive function, processing, and sensory-motor skills that impact a child's ability to reach their full potential

● Implement our proven, transformative programs that target ADHD, working memory challenges, executive functioning deficits, and anxiety, among other learning challenges — addressing root causes, not just symptoms

● Prepare weekly, customized lesson plans and long-term plans for every student

● Provide bi-weekly progress reports to families

This is a part-time W2 position, not a 1099 gig. You're part of the team.

What you might teach

● STEM — math through calculus, biology, chemistry, physics

● ELA — reading comprehension, writing, English literature

● Test prep — SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, HSPT

● Executive functioning — study skills, time management, organization, planning

You don't need to cover all of these. We'll match you to students based on your strengths.

What we're looking for

● Bachelor's degree from a competitive institution (master's or doctorate a plus)

● Strong subject-matter expertise in at least one core area: STEM, ELA, or test prep

● Patience, warmth, and genuine curiosity about how different students learn differently

● Reliable availability during afternoons, evenings, and at least one weekend slot per week

● Excellent communication — you'll write brief session notes and update parents on progress

● Minimum 6 months of prior tutoring experience preferred, or comparable experience working with kids

Whether you're a graduate student, recent grad, or career educator looking for meaningful part-time work that fits around your schedule, this is worth a close look.

Compensation

● $35/hr for tutoring sessions (rate depends on subject, experience, and tenure)

● W2 employment — not independent contractor

● Merit-based rate increases available

Why tutors stay here

● Small team — you're a person, not a shift slot

● Real autonomy in how you work with students, within a proven instructional framework

● Students who are motivated and families who are invested

● Flexible arrangement — hours scale with your availability and our demand

● Appointment-only model means no dead time sitting around an empty center

To apply

Send a brief note about yourself — your background, the subjects you're strongest in, and your typical weekly availability. We review applications on a rolling basis and move quickly for strong candidates.
