Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled GCP FinOps Engineer with hands-on experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BigQuery optimization, cloud cost management, and monitoring solutions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring cloud spend, optimizing resource utilization, building dashboards, and implementing FinOps best practices across GCP environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and optimize GCP cloud costs, resource utilization, and operational efficiency.
- Work with FinOps tools such as Apptio Cloudability and cloud cost management dashboards.
- Configure and maintain Grafana dashboards for cloud monitoring, usage metrics, performance indicators, and cost visibility.
- Develop automated reporting and monitoring solutions for cloud spend analysis, budget tracking, and anomaly detection.
- Analyze GCP billing and usage data to identify optimization opportunities and cost-saving recommendations.
- Collaborate with engineering and platform teams to implement tagging standards, governance policies, and FinOps best practices.
- Work extensively on BigQuery cost optimization, slot consumption analysis, reservations, quotas, partitioning, and clustering.
- Tune BigQuery SQL queries to improve performance and reduce shuffle-related slot overuse.
- Utilize GCP APIs such as Cloud Asset Inventory and BigQuery Information Schema for reporting and operational insights.
- Support cloud governance initiatives and ensure efficient utilization of cloud resources.
Required Skills
- 5 years of IT experience with strong exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Hands-on experience in GCP FinOps and cloud cost optimization.
- Experience with Apptio Cloudability or similar cloud cost management tools.
- Strong experience in Grafana dashboard creation and monitoring solutions.
- Good knowledge of GCP billing, budgeting, and cloud governance practices.
- Strong expertise in BigQuery including:
- Slot consumption
- Reservations and quotas
- Query performance tuning
- Partitioning and clustering
- Shuffle optimization
- Strong SQL optimization and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working with GCP APIs and cloud monitoring solutions.
- Good understanding of automation and reporting solutions.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of Infrastructure Monitoring and Observability tools.
- Experience with cloud automation or scripting.
- Understanding of FinOps governance frameworks and cost allocation models.
- Certification in GCP is a plus.
