Position Summary:
This is a highly technical preprint role, not a graphic design position. The Preprint Coordinator is responsible for converting customer-supplied artwork into press-ready files for wide web flexographic film printing. This includes managing complex electronic files, proofs, and plates according to strict specifications and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have 2–3 years of hands-on experience in flexographic printing environments, with a strong understanding of color management and print production processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate graphics into press language: Prepare and manipulate customer artwork for accurate printability on wide web flexographic presses.
- Preflight and troubleshoot files: Ensure all supplied files meet technical requirements for flexographic printing; provide feedback to customers on necessary adjustments.
- Proofing and approvals: Generate and manage proofs; follow up with customers to secure timely approvals for production scheduling.
- Plate and mounting support: Collaborate with the Plate Room/Mounting Department to ensure accurate plate production and mounting.
- Documentation: Complete internal documents such as Artwork Quotations, Job Orders, and related production paperwork.
- Compliance: Adhere to Food Safety Procedures and Policies relevant to the role.
What This Role Is NOT:
This is not a creative design position. While familiarity with design software is required, the focus is on technical file preparation for print, not creating original artwork or marketing designs.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Strong technical knowledge of flexographic printing processes, especially wide web film applications.
- Proficiency in file manipulation and color management.
- Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Professional, and related software.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills for customer interaction and internal collaboration.
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or GED required; Technical/Vocational degree in Graphic Arts preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of prepress experience in flexographic printing (wide web film strongly preferred).
- Familiarity with plate-making processes and print production workflows.
