Opening Statement
The Early Childhood Afternoon Assistant Teacher position at Cedarwood Waldorf School assists the lead teacher and the morning assistant; leads or assists in holding the extended day program from 3 PM- 6 PM. Work for this position takes place when school is in session, 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM, including two paid 10-minute breaks and one 30-minute unpaid lunch break. This position is a regular, academic year, hourly position.

Portland has a robust Waldorf community, with six schools, a Waldorf high school, many home pre-schools, anthroposophical doctors, therapeutic eurythmists and the Portland Branch of the Anthroposophical Society.
Cedarwood is accredited by both AWSNA and NWAIS, and currently serves more than 260 students from early childhood through the eighth grade. Our students benefit from rich, diverse programming that includes Spanish, Japanese, eurythmy, music, practical arts, movement, Cyber Civics, and a middle-school math program. Additionally, we have an educational support team that provides assessment and individual and/or small group academic support for students. We have a strong, collaborative faculty that works hard to support one another and consciously represent Waldorf education to our school community and beyond.
Essential Job Duties
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists the lead teacher as directed
Cleans up after morning snack
Sets up rest time
Monitors children during play time, rest time and extended day
Helps to provide breaks for other assistants as needed
Cleans and straightens the classroom at the end of the school day
Restocks food items in classrooms
Makes appropriate use of space, equipment, and material storage
Facilitates dismissal of students to caregivers
Records and reports student incidents to lead teacher
Documents time worked each day
Respects the confidentiality and use of information about enrolled children and families, personnel issues, and other school operations
Tracks student arrival times for extended day
Greets students and transition them to the extended day program
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Two years experience working with children in a group setting
An understanding of Waldorf early childhood education is preferred
Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
Must pass a criminal history check
Must have CPR/First Aid certification within 90 days of hire
Must complete compliance training for all Oregon Early Learning Division Licensed Program requirements
