Responsibilities

• Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes based on documented diagnoses and procedures.
• Ensure all coding aligns with current industry standards and regulatory guidelines to maximize reimbursement and maintain compliance.
• Prepare and submit accurate claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, adhering to payer-specific requirements.
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies while maintaining professional communication with insurance companies.
• Maintain detailed documentation of coding decisions, billing activities, and correspondence related to medical records.
• Stay current with updates in medical terminology, coding guidelines, and healthcare regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or resolve discrepancies that impact billing accuracy.
• Assist in managing patient accounts by verifying insurance coverage, explaining billing statements, and supporting patients through the billing process.
• Conduct audits of medical records to ensure proper coding practices are followed and identify areas for process improvement.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting; familiarity with EMR/EHR systems is essential.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as DRG classification methods.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards.
• Ability to interpret complex medical data accurately and apply appropriate coding conventions.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure precision in billing processes.
• Knowledge of medical collection procedures and insurance claim submission protocols.
• Prior experience working in a medical office environment is preferred but not mandatory.

Pay: $22.51 - $27.11 per hour
