Job Description: FIELD SERVICE & SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

Position Type: Full Time, Salaried

Industry: Test Equipment Engineering and Manufacturing

Job Type: Metrology Instrumentation Service, Support, Troubleshooting, Repair, Installation, and Calibration


Education Req'd: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree and/or Significant Industry or Role Experience. Candidates with military or technical training will also be considered. 


Experience Req’d: 1-5 years of experience in a travel technical support role preferred. Candidates must possess strong electromechanical and computer troubleshooting skills, as well as critical thinking and critical problem-solving skillsets. Previous experience working with AVID Corporation testing equipment a significant plus.


Language Req'd: Spoken and written English language fluency is a requirement for consideration. Proficiency in Spanish a significant plus.

About the Field Service & Support Technician Position

AVID maintains a reputation for customer service excellence though rapid response, deep technical and industry knowledge, and industry-leading post-sale service and support. As a customer-facing member of the Field Service team, you will travel to customer sites throughout the United States, Canada, and Latin America to provide in-plant services on AVID Corporation equipment.


The Field Service Technician is primarily a travelling role, requiring 70% travel in a typical month. While in the field, you will calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, installation, and otherwise maintain AVID’s line of test and precision measurement equipment. You will also provide onsite customer support in the form of customer training and system program setup.


While in the office, you will assist the production and delivery teams with new instrument setup and qualification while providing remote phone and computer support to customers, and planning upcoming service visits. AVID places high value on a healthy work-life balance, and does not require travel on weekends. 


Responsibilities

Following a 2-to-3-month orientation and training phase, primary responsibilities will include:

  • Traveling to customer sites in North America, Latin America, and Europe providing scheduled maintenance, calibration, and emergency repair services at customer facilities.
  • Troubleshooting & resolving customer questions and technical support issues via calls, emails, and field work.
  • Contacting and arranging service schedules with customers and AVID support management, and making necessary personal travel arrangements.
  • Assisting with in-house production, setup, testing, and qualification of new instruments.
  • Repairing / testing customer equipment and subcomponents returned for service.


Requirements

Successful candidates will possess critical/analytical thinking skills, a history of solving complex technical problems, and the ability to learn and apply new skills. The candidate must be self-starting, self-motivated, composed and adaptable to change. Service technicians work with minimal supervision in the field, and are expected to demonstrate initiative and professionalism.


  • Applicant must be willing to relocate to the Portsmouth, NH area for consideration.
  • Applicant must be willing to travel (by air) and be away from home frequently.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree, but relevant technical experience or training will also be considered.
  • US Passport, or the ability to acquire a US Passport (some international travel is expected in this role).
  • Reliable personal transportation.
  • Strong electrical/mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products and MS Windows OS.
  • English language fluency (verbal and written) is required for this position.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent time and schedule management.

 

Preferences

The ideal candidate will also have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Prior experience in a technical support role requiring frequent personal travel and arranging air travel.
  • Prior experience in a role maintaining/repairing lab equipment or similar instrumentation.
  • Prior experience in an electrical and/or mechanical troubleshooting or assembly role.
  • Prior experience in a role working with AVID Corporation equipment.


Physical Requirements

  • The following physical demands are representative of those that are typical of the primary functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently stand, kneel, squat, bend, twist, crawl, and walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk; or hear. The employee must have range of motion in order to operate hand tools, e.g., ratchets, wrenches, screwdriver, hand-held power tools. The employee must be able to routinely lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent travel via aircraft, shuttle buses, and rental cars with 50 pounds of tools, equipment, and personal belongings is routine.
