Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Field Service Technician to provide installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and technical support for specialized equipment at customer sites. This role requires extensive travel and strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting expertise. The successful candidate will work closely with customers, engineering, sales, and service teams to ensure equipment performance and customer satisfaction.
This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair equipment at customer locations.
- Communicate project schedules, customer expectations, project scope, and critical updates with customers and internal teams.
- Evaluate customer requirements and provide recommendations based on warranty and service agreement guidelines.
- Diagnose technical issues and collaborate with Engineering and Customer Service teams to develop effective solutions.
- Prepare detailed service reports and maintain accurate documentation.
- Train customers on proper equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and best practices.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with customers.
- Support Engineering with product testing, validation, and development of technical documentation and product manuals.
- Coordinate travel logistics and complete expense reporting.
- Assist mechanical and electrical assembly teams with equipment assembly when not traveling.
- Promote company values and contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Experience & Skills
- Hands-on experience with at least two of the following systems (three or more preferred):
- Pneumatic systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Mechanical systems
- DC electrical systems
- Significant mechanical and electrical assembly experience.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Basic computer proficiency and experience performing electronic diagnostics.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to perform calculations involving percentages, area, circumference, volume, unit conversions, and weight measurements.
- Understanding of PLC controllers and their applications in industrial systems.
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Electrical schematics
- Pneumatic diagrams
- Cable diagrams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with pneumatic, hydraulic, and/or mechanical systems in an industrial environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build strong working relationships.
Travel & Overtime Requirements
- Approximately 80% travel by air and automobile.
- Frequent overnight travel throughout the United States.
- Occasional international travel.
- Valid passport required.
- Must meet TSA travel requirements.
- Must be insurable to operate personal and rental vehicles.
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed, including evenings, weekends, extended hours, and travel-related overtime based on customer and project demands.
