In this position, you will serve as the go-to resource for all things payroll and benefits across our organization — ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, benefits programs run smoothly, and workforce data remains reliable. What You’ll Do
Own the Payroll Process
- Execute full-cycle payroll processing on weekly and bi-weekly schedules for hourly, salaried, and executive employees using HRIS platforms (e.g., UKG Pro or comparable systems)
- Monitor compliance with applicable wage and hour regulations, FLSA requirements, and tax obligations; perform audits, corrections, and reconciliations as needed
- Manage off-cycle runs, bonus payments, and special pay situations
- Oversee time and attendance platforms — including system logic, timecard accuracy, and cutoff schedules
- Calculate and apply premium adjustments, retroactive changes, and enrollment-related deductions or refunds
- Process and communicate wage garnishments and court-ordered withholdings to affected employees
- Design internal checkpoints to achieve and sustain a 100% accuracy standard
- Own end-to-end administration of the company’s full benefits portfolio: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, FSA/HSA, 401(k), FMLA, STD, and LTD
- Plan and lead annual open enrollment — from strategy and communications through final execution
- Act as the primary liaison with benefits brokers and insurance carriers to ensure efficient plan management
- Oversee day-to-day enrollment changes, qualifying life events, and system updates
- Evaluate the competitiveness of current offerings and bring forward recommendations to strengthen the benefits package
- Ensure ongoing compliance with federal and state regulations governing health, welfare, and retirement plans, including data privacy requirements
- Coordinate life insurance claims with HR, employee families, and carriers
- Manage administrative tasks such as HSA employer contribution processing, benefits summary updates, and routine audits
- Partner with HR Business Partners to address team member questions and support benefit utilization
- Act as the escalation point for complex or sensitive pay and benefits issues
- Train supervisors and employees on relevant tools, policies, and processes
- Maintain and deliver onboarding materials related to compensation and benefits
- Produce recurring reporting on labor costs, 401(k) funding, overtime, headcount, and benefits utilization/claims
- Identify and implement process improvements across payroll, benefits, and internal controls
- Document and maintain thorough standard operating procedures for all relevant workflows
Experience
- 5-7 years of progressive experience in payroll and benefits administration
- Hands-on experience with a major HRIS/payroll platform (UKG Pro or equivalent strongly preferred)
- Deep working knowledge of benefits plan types including health & welfare, retirement, and leave programs
- Unwavering commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a continuous improvement mindset
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, shift-based environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to translate complex topics for a general audience
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the broader Office suite
- Experience managing vendor relationships with professionalism and tact
