Avalanche Security Solutions is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Security Dispatcher/Recruiter to manage and coordinate security operations for multiple properties. This position requires a strong ability to multitask, make quick decisions under pressure, and manage a range of responsibilities, including (but not limited to) answering calls, dispatching security guards, monitoring radio traffic and locations of guards, troubleshooting technical issues and completing numerous reports. While the role offers opportunities for growth and skill development, it is important to recognize that the work environment can be fast-paced, demanding, and anxiety-inducing at times. This position involves alternating between dispatch and recruitment tasks. Experience in performing job interviews is ideal but not required.

The ideal candidate will thrive in high-pressure situations, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain composure under stressful circumstances. This role requires strong communication, decision-making, and time-management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Multitasking and Task Management:

You will be required to handle several duties simultaneously, including answering phone calls, dispatching security personnel, responding to radio communications, and completing reports. The need to juggle multiple tasks at once can be challenging and may lead to moments of high stress, especially when responding to urgent or complex situations.

  • Emergency Response and Decision-Making:

Dispatchers are expected to respond swiftly to emergency calls such as fires, floods, or medical emergencies. These situations often demand immediate action, and you may need to make critical decisions quickly under pressure, contributing to higher levels of anxiety in fast-paced situations.

  • Handling Aggressive Callers:

You will be required to manage calls from residents or clients who may be frustrated, rude, or even threatening. Handling these situations professionally while maintaining composure can be mentally taxing and might increase stress levels, especially when dealing with verbal abuse or difficult individuals.

  • Time-Sensitive Dispatching:

Timely response is crucial in this role. You will need to ensure calls for service are dispatched to security personnel within a specified time frame, typically 30 minutes or less. This constant need to meet deadlines may cause additional pressure, especially during high-demand periods.

  • Monitoring and Supervising Guards in the Field:

You are responsible for tracking the performance and location of guards in the field. If a guard is running behind on their route or not meeting expectations, you may need to intervene, which can create additional pressure to address these issues quickly and effectively.

  • Technical Troubleshooting:

Dispatchers are often required to resolve technical issues with dispatch systems or mobile devices. These situations may require immediate troubleshooting and could cause frustration or anxiety, particularly if you are unable to resolve the issue quickly.

  • Report Generation and Accuracy:

You will be responsible for ensuring that all logs and reports (dispatch, red flag, maintenance, etc.) are completed accurately and submitted on time. The pressure to avoid mistakes and ensure thorough documentation may increase stress levels, particularly if there is concern about oversight or error.

  • Exposure to Violent or Illegal Activities:

As a Security Dispatcher, you may be required to listen to or overhear distressing and potentially violent situations, including but not limited to criminal activities, threats, or emergency calls from victims. Some calls may involve detailed descriptions of incidents involving officers or victims in danger, which can be emotionally challenging and anxiety-inducing. It is essential to remain focused and calm in these situations while ensuring that appropriate action is taken, but it is also recognized that such calls can have an emotional impact.

You will need to manage your emotional response to these situations, document calls accurately, and take swift, professional action. Additionally, there may be instances where a situation escalates, requiring additional assistance or coordination with local law enforcement. The nature of these calls may cause increased stress or anxiety, especially when they involve safety risks to personnel or vulnerable individuals.

Key Qualifications:

  • Strong multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly when dealing with difficult or distressed individuals.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and manage urgent, emergency situations effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to accurately document and report on events.
  • Proficient in computer programs with the ability to learn new and proprietary applications.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused in stressful situations, maintaining professionalism even under verbal or emotional pressure.
  • Experience with security dispatch systems and radio communication protocols is a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to dispatch software and devices.
  • A high level of patience and resilience when managing anxiety-inducing situations.
  • Strong personal skills such as active listening skills, adaptability, resilience, and critical thinking are very beneficial in this role as you will be interviewing new applicants for our open positions

Work Environment & Considerations:

  • This position involves managing multiple high-stress situations simultaneously and requires the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
  • The role involves dealing with emergency calls, potentially hostile or upset individuals, and ensuring time-sensitive tasks are completed accurately. This can lead to moments of significant anxiety, especially during busy or crisis situations.
  • While this is a HYBRID position, you will need to have access to a quiet space and have high-speed internet at home. We provide all necessary equipment. The calls and noises from phones and radios can be loud at times so consideration for other members of the household should be considered before applying.
  • While not often, you must be a team player and able to work when a fellow team member calls off. This could involve working the opposite shift as needed.

There is a need for constant vigilance to ensure guards are on track and emergency situations are handled in a timely manner, which can contribute to a demanding and high-pressure work environment.
