Job Title: Lead Low Voltage Technician
Position Overview
The Lead Low Voltage Technician is responsible for the installation, termination, and testing of low voltage cabling and systems, including structured cabling, security, surveillance, access control, audio/visual, window shades and other related technologies. This role involves hands-on fieldwork either solo or with team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and route low voltage cabling (Cat6, fiber optic, coaxial, speaker etc.) in commercial and residential environments.
- Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and technical drawings to complete system layouts.
- Mount and install devices such as Televisions, cameras, access control hardware, card readers, audio/visual equipment, and other low voltage components.
- Terminate, label, and test cables to ensure performance and compliance with industry standards.
- Assign tasks for entry level techs on jobsites
- Network / Wi-Fi setup and troubleshooting
- Installation and commissioning of systems as designed with end-user training
- Troubleshooting of installed systems
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, following company safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
- Provide accurate daily reporting of work performed, materials used, and job progress.
- Collaborate with other trades, other team members, and project managers to ensure on-time project completion.
- Deliver excellent customer service and represent the company professionally on all job sites.
Qualifications
- 3 Years previous experience in residential and/or commercial custom AV required (prefer 5 years)
- Lighting Control Programming preferred
- Home Automation Control Programming preferred Control4, URC, RTI etc.
- Strong understanding of networks, Wi-Fi, and networking gear required
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and cable testing equipment.
- Experience with home theater equipment, distributed audio and video systems
- Rack building and cable management
- Strong construction/building practice understanding to ensure effective retrofit installations
- Strong understanding of cabling standards (TIA/EIA) and low voltage systems.
- Ability to work at heights (ladders, lifts) and in various environments (indoor/outdoor, confined spaces such as crawl spaces or attics).
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver’s license with clean record.
- Certifications such as BICSI, CEDIA, or manufacturer-specific training a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent
