Government Affairs Coordinator

Location: Arlington, VA (Hybrid) | Full Remote Considered for the Right Candidate


The Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of uncrewed systems, autonomy, and robotics, represents corporations and professionals from more than 60 countries involved in industry, government, and academia. AUVSI members work in the defense, civil and commercial markets. We pride ourselves on being the leading trade association serving a growing autonomous vehicle industry sector including drones, automated and remotely operated ground and maritime vehicles, and their related components and systems.


The Opportunity

AUVSI is seeking a Government Affairs Coordinator to support its policy and advocacy initiatives in the air domain, with a primary focus on drones and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). The Coordinator will play a vital role in advancing federal policies, tracking legislative and regulatory developments, and supporting policy communications related to drones and AAM and companies supporting those sectors.

Essential Job Functions

  • Monitor, research, and track federal legislative and regulatory activity impacting the drone and AAM sectors.
  • Support the development and execution of advocacy strategies in collaboration with AUVSI's Advocacy Team.
  • Prepare briefings, reports, policy summaries, and advocacy materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate logistics and materials for legislative meetings, briefings, and events, including AUVSI’s annual Hill Day.
  • Assist in managing relationships with congressional offices, federal agencies (e.g., FAA, DOT), other government partners, and private sector member companies.
  • Draft correspondence, legislative material, advocacy documents, comment letters, testimony, and coalition communications related to airspace policy and safety regulations.
  • Maintain and update advocacy databases, tracking tools, and stakeholder contact lists.
  • Provide administrative support to the Advocacy team.
  • Represent AUVSI at meetings, congressional engagements, and industry events as needed.
  • Work directly with AUVSI's expansive membership and support management of AUVSI's Air Advocacy Committee and associated Subcommittees.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or legislative advocacy (Hill or agency experience preferred).
  • Familiarity with and interest in aviation policy, emerging transportation technologies, or UAS/AAM industries strongly preferred.
  • Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organized with high attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with legislative tracking tools is a plus.

  • None.


Working Environment

  • This position will be based in our Arlington, VA office on a hybrid schedule (minimum of three days per week in the office); full remote would be considered for the right candidate.
  • Willing to travel up to 20% of the time.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail in a standard office environment or while working remotely.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be asked to lift objects up to 15 lbs.
