Community Engagement Coordinator


Summary

Reporting to the Director of Family Wellness, the Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for establishing and cultivating relationships to expand the agency’s reach to those who are unsafe and underinformed per the agency’s Strategic Plan programmatic priority. This position is also responsible for coordinating a full agency effort (staff and Board) to increase our awareness of and programs for marginalized members of the autism community.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services, education, or other relevant field from an accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and relationship cultivation with community stakeholders in underserved communities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and adjust to changing demands
  • Proficiency or a demonstrated ability to quickly acquire proficiency in software products for productivity (e.g., PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint) and communication (e.g., Teams, Outlook)

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a human services, education, or other relevant field from an accredited college or university
  • 3 years or more of direct experience working with individuals with autism and/or their families

Responsibilities



Community Engagement and Relationship Development

  • Identify areas of need for individual staff and agency-wide professional development in diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Identify and assist in pursuing grant opportunities
  • Coordinate data collection, reporting, and accountability processes relative to equity work and community engagement practices
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders in diverse communities
  • Manage communication and conduct meetings as appropriate with external stakeholders
  • Identify and develop relationships with community providers for inclusion on Autism New Jersey’s referral lists
  • Identify and assist in recruitment of individuals from diverse communities to participate in current agency initiatives (e.g., healthcare consortium, family wellness programs, see “Internal Collaboration” below for a more complete list)

Content Development

  • Review existing agency communications (e.g., website content, publications) and provide recommendations to enhance the content’s relevance to diverse and marginalized members of the autism community
  • Generate standalone and embedded content that speaks to the experiences of families and individuals in diverse and marginalized communities

Internal Collaboration

  • Support the agency’s Law Enforcement Initiative
    • Provide planning and communication support, including preparing internal and external meetings/events, facilitating stakeholder communication, and contributing to content development
    • Ensure smooth execution and follow-through by monitoring progress, facilitating task completion, and maintaining accurate documentation, lists, and CRM records to keep all efforts aligned and on track
  • Collaborate with Clinical (e.g., training content, conference), Information Services (e.g., helpline), Awareness (e.g., ambassador program, media), and Public Policy (e.g., Administration and regulation, Legislature and legislation) on agency projects and activities to increase the participation of marginalized members of the autism community
  • Provide support as requested to Autism New Jersey’s various departments to maximize organizational success

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with the agency’s Personnel Manual
  • Maintain all relevant professional standards including ethics and confidentiality
  • Engage in professional development activities
  • Provide outstanding customer service
  • Represent Autism New Jersey in the community
  • Participate in agency events and other activities as directed
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director of Family Wellness and Executive Director
