What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Stack Engineer (FDE) position at AustinWorks?
Forward Deployed Engineer — AI Agents
About the Company
Our client is a rapidly growing, well-funded Series B applied AI company building autonomous agents for go-to-market teams. Its platform helps sales organizations automate time-consuming work across account research, prospecting, personalized outreach, meeting preparation, follow-ups, and other complex workflows.
The company has achieved significant enterprise adoption, sustained rapid revenue growth, and raised more than $70 million from leading technology investors. This is an opportunity to join a high-caliber engineering organization and take ownership of an important, zero-to-one product area.
About the Role
Our client is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to own the end-to-end deployment of production AI agents with strategic design partners.
This is not a traditional implementation or solutions-engineering position. You will embed directly with customers, understand their workflows, build and improve production agents, and take responsibility for measurable business outcomes.
You will operate with GM-level ownership across engineering, product, and customer success. There is no rigid deployment playbook—you will be expected to identify problems, ship solutions quickly, evaluate their performance, and continuously improve the system based on real-world customer feedback.
What You’ll Do
- Deploy and continuously improve AI agents supporting account strategy, prospecting, outbound email, social outreach, call preparation, and follow-up workflows.
- Embed directly with customers through shared communication channels, working sessions, and rapid iteration cycles.
- Translate ambiguous customer feedback into production code, agent improvements, and measurable business results.
- Build agents capable of automating nuanced knowledge-work workflows while maintaining appropriate reliability and user trust.
- Design evaluation systems and trust-calibration mechanisms for agents operating in production.
- Quickly troubleshoot complex customer environments and ship improvements in response to real-world issues.
- Own deployment outcomes end to end, including adoption, agent performance, workflow quality, and customer impact.
- Communicate effectively across sales users, technical teams, product stakeholders, and company leadership.
- Surface recurring customer needs and help influence the broader product and engineering roadmap.
What We’re Looking For
- Approximately 3–8 years of experience in full-stack engineering, product engineering, forward-deployed engineering, or a similarly hands-on technical role.
- A strong software engineering foundation, ideally developed at a recognized growth-stage technology company, high-performing AI team, or other demanding engineering environment.
- Demonstrated experience building and shipping production AI agents or agentic workflows to external users.
- End-to-end individual-contributor ownership, from understanding the problem through implementation, deployment, debugging, and iteration.
- Experience working directly with enterprise customers or users in messy, ambiguous technical environments.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, Python, or a comparable modern application-development stack.
- Practical experience with agent-development techniques such as prompt engineering, tool use, evaluations, observability, and trust calibration.
- Excellent communication across business, engineering, and executive audiences.
- High agency and comfort operating without extensive product-management direction or an established playbook.
- A technical degree or equivalent evidence of strong computer-science and engineering fundamentals.
This Role May Not Be a Fit If You Are
- Primarily a backend or infrastructure engineer without customer-facing deployment experience.
- A solutions engineer focused mainly on configuring or demonstrating an existing platform rather than building software.
- Coming from a consulting-only background without meaningful production coding experience.
- Experienced with AI prototypes but have not shipped agentic systems to real external users.
- Most comfortable working from a clearly defined roadmap with substantial product-management direction.
- Looking for a research-only, platform-only, or internally focused engineering position.
