Role Description The Bilingual Special Education Teacher - Life Skills is a full-time, on-site role based in Austin, TX. This educator provides individualized and small-group instruction to students with disabilities, focusing on life skills, functional academics, social-emotional development, and communication in both English and the target second language. Daily responsibilities include developing and implementing IEPs, adapting curriculum and instructional materials, monitoring student progress, and maintaining accurate documentation. The teacher collaborates with general education teachers, related service providers, families, and campus administrators to support inclusive practices and ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications. The role also involves classroom and behavior management, participation in ARD/IEP meetings, and ongoing professional learning aligned with AISD and state requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Special Education, including knowledge of disabilities and experience supporting students in life skills or similar programs.
- Demonstrated Teaching experience, preferably at the Elementary School level, with skills in lesson planning, classroom management, and differentiated instruction.
- Effective Communication skills with students, families, and colleagues, including ability to collaborate on IEPs and multidisciplinary teams.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish
- Valid Texas teaching certificate or eligibility for certification in Special Education; additional certification in Bilingual Education strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of IDEA, ADA, Section 504, and state special education regulations, as well as experience with IEP development and progress monitoring.
- Commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive practices and the ability to work effectively in a diverse school community.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, comfort with educational technology, and willingness to participate in ongoing professional development.
