Description

Job Title: Executive Pastor (EP) 

Location: Austin, TX 

Reports To: Senior Pastor 

FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt  

Work Week: Sunday through Thursday, on ACF campus  


Job purpose 

To ensure the smooth operation of the organization, and cooperation of all church staff to create an environment conducive to the realization of ACF’s vision, mission, and goals. Responsible for the day-to-day leadership, management and decision making for all ministries and staff. In leadership, to serve as the primary representative of the Senior Pastor. Expected to contribute to the team spirit of the staff through fellowship, encouragement, cooperation, prayer and other appropriate ways, as the EP serves Jesus, the church and the Senior Pastor.  


Duties and responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Planning The EP is responsible for envisioning the future ministry of ACF and developing procedures and operations for achieving the church’s goals. The EP will ensure that the systems, practices and policies of the church effectively support the ministry objectives of the church. This leadership and input will be provided through: 

  • Providing assistance to the Senior Pastor in the preparation and implementation of long-range plans. 
  • Providing day-to-day leadership to all staff and coordinating all church ministries. 
  • Monitoring the pulse of the congregation through research, planning and strategies for growth, goal achievement and program planning. The five most important statistics to monitor are:
  • Number of small group attendees
  • Number of baptisms 
  • Number of ACFers serving
  • Weekly service attendance/First time visitors
  • Weekly Giving dollars 
  • Ensuring staffing, facilities and programs are appropriately and effectively aligned to best meet the church’s strategic goals. 
  • Overseeing ACF’s mission strategy and initiatives by encouraging and working alongside the Missions leadership. Working to ensure that Missions is adequately funded and one of our highest priorities. 
  • Overseeing ACF’s prayer ministry by encouraging and working alongside the ACF Prayer leaders. Encourage regular, active participation by all staff, volunteers and church attendees by modeling it personally.
  •  oordinating and leading monthly staff meetings.
  • Availability on campus, guiding the process, when significant activity is taking place (worship and special services, before and after services). Maintaining flexible work hours as determined by the needs of the ministry.
  • Performing ministerial duties on a regular basis as circumstances demand.
  • Other pastoral and administrative duties as requested by the Senior Pastor and/or the Overseers.

Staff Supervision and Development

The EP will serve as chief of staff and personnel director for all staff and lay volunteers. He will lead, evaluate, and mentor existing staff in their respective areas of ministry and prioritize staff additions. Includes the following responsibilities:

  • Directly responsible for hiring and dismissal of all pastoral staff after consultation and guidance from the Senior Pastor and Human Resources. Indirectly responsible for the supervision of all other full-time and part-time employees.
  • Provide leadership, support, training, accountability, and direction to the pastoral staff in the design and implementation of their respective church ministries.
  • Responsible for assisting each staff member to function at a high level of proficiency.
  • Give direct “hands on” supervision to pastoral or department areas of ministry as directed by the Senior Pastor.
  • Oversee training and development for the pastoral staff and direct reports.
  • Ensure monthly all-staff meeting is well-planned and well-led.
  • Oversee staffing retreats, planning days and other staff functions.
  • Responsible for regular 1x1s and quarterly Continuous Coaching with all direct reports.
  • Work with Human Resources to design all staff annual salary reviews and and present to Senior Pastor the salary recommendations.
  • Maintain efficient and effective lines of communication between the staff and Senior Pastor.
  • Provide the Senior Pastor, on a regular basis, with written reports, accurately reflecting the status of all key ministry areas and personnel issues.

Administration

Oversee and execute the administration of the church through appropriate staff, lay leadership teams, and consultants (as needed and approved by the Senior Pastor). Ensure the completion of business, facility, and logistical support functions through staff and lay volunteers, including:

  • Responsibility in conjunction with the Accounting Manager to control, and manage all revenue and expenditures and provide oversight and direction in all financial functions of the church, including: fundraising, cash flow, contributions, insurance, banking and financing, payroll, leases, church budget planning and oversight and approval of all ministry expenses.
  • Overseeing the development, implementation and monitoring of each departmental budget to insure that each ministry is budgeting for growth.
  • Providing direction for the effective functioning of the offices and administrative and support functions.
  • Providing leadership to the Facilities Manager and all related building and maintenance issues.
  • Ensuring the timely completion of objectives in the overall campus development and building process and serving as the church liaison for the architect and general contractor. Reviews contracts for conformity with church policy and practice and the goals of the project.
  • Overseeing the effective functioning and maintenance of computer, information and communication systems with support from lay volunteers and paid tech consultants.
  • Overseeing development of and adherence to church policies and procedures.

Community Relations

Oversee and execute planned active, continuing participation with and within the community to maintain and enhance its environment to the benefit of the community and the church, including:

  • Property Utilization: Maximize and utilize current properties to best serve the community
  • Business Development: Developing strategic business relationships with established businesses to provide quality goods and services to mutually benefit both the business and the church;
  • Economic Empowerment: Empowering community residents to move from distress to success by referring them to a broad range of services.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Fulfills the Biblical moral and spiritual qualifications for church leadership as described in 1 Tim 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
  • In agreement with our doctrine, vision, mission, and values.
  • A minimum of 10 years of successful ministry and/or commensurate marketplace experience.
  • B.A. or equivalent ministry experience required.
  • Extensive experience establishing, communicating and executing effective systems, policies, practices and processes, from an executive level.
  • Can live in both worlds of faith/kingdom thinking as well as facts/spreadsheets.
  • Working knowledge of accounting and finance systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing spiritual development and maturity and be of impeccable personal integrity and moral purity.
  • Knows how to develop leadership abilities in others and how to build and manage an effective team.
  • Ability to manage the day-to-day operations of the organization and the staff.
  • Proven skills in change management, visioneering, conflict, and people management.

Working conditions

This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical requirements

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
