Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Materials & Purchasing Specialist to manage procurement, inventory, and supply chain operations within our organization. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless flow of materials, optimizing sourcing strategies, and maintaining strong supplier relationships. They will process orders, accept deliveries, keep track of inventory, and keep the warehouse clean and organized, which includes everything from physically moving product around the warehouse space to properly maintaining all shipping and receiving records. The Materials & Purchasing Specialist will also perform kitting for manufacturing builds. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to manufacturing efficiency and supply chain excellence through effective procurement and inventory management practices.
Duties
- Manage procurement activities utilizing ERP systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, etc. to ensure timely acquisition of materials.
- Oversee inventory control processes, including stock levels, storage, and distribution to support manufacturing operations.
- Coordinate sourcing initiatives and supplier management to secure quality materials at competitive pricing.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors to optimize supply chain costs and performance.
- Monitor Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems to forecast needs and prevent stockouts or overstock situations.
- Packs and ships orders for delivery.
- Control inventory levels and ensure availability of material during emergencies and assist in forecasting to plan future orders.
- Pulls parts to kit jobs for manufacturing builds and notes shortages for parts to be ordered.
- Keeps warehouse area clean and organized.
- Updates management or supervisor on the status of inventory, shipments, and deliveries.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, logistics, and quality assurance to align procurement strategies with operational goals.
- Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, contracts, and supplier performance metrics for ongoing evaluation.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards related to procurement management and supply chain operations.
Skills
- Proficiency in Accounting and ERP systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, etc. for procurement and inventory management.
- Strong understanding of procurement management, sourcing, and supply chain principles.
- Experience with MRP systems, inventory control, and logistics coordination.
- Excellent negotiation skills for contract negotiation, vendor management, and pricing agreements.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, contract management, and supplier relationship building.
- Ability to analyze data related to procurement activities to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and external vendors.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities efficiently. Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Must have experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and other inventory management software.
Work Environment
- Workday is a standard 8 hours, and is spent in a warehouse setting.
- The position involves a significant amount of physical labor, requiring long hours of lifting, packing, standing, and movement around the warehouse.
- Additional time will be spent meeting with other company departments in an office to report on inventory and stock levels with expected delivery dates on purchased parts.
- Warehouse temperatures are variable and often uncontrolled, but most time is spent in a controlled environment.
- Conditions in the warehouse can be dangerous, as tasks involve the transporting of large product loads.
Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
