Position Purpose

The Campus Internship Coordinator supports learning by managing and administering the internship program for AU students. As a member of the Career Services team, the coordinator works with all students across academic disciplines and modalities.

Essential Job Functions

Internship Search & Student Support

  • Assist undergraduate and graduate students in securing internships for academic credit and career preparation.
  • Provide direct student support through 1.1 meetings to encourage experiential learning opportunities, provide internship search assistance, and share program requirements.
  • Monitor communication between student interns, site supervisors, and faculty internship instructors (for credit-bearing internships).
  • Coordinate and facilitate training sessions and orientations for students completing internships.
  • Seek new internship opportunities, including micro, project-based, and remote internships.
  • Maintain regular contact with internship sites and partners to ensure quality experiences and troubleshoot issues.

Internship Program Management

  • Utilize Handshake to post positions, process applications, store data, and communicate with employers.
  • Maintain accurate internship records, including required agreements, evaluations, and completion of documentation.
  • Track and document student internship sites, hours completed, and site evaluations.
  • Collect and analyze post-internship evaluation and assessment data to inform continuous improvement.
  • Assist in assessing internship program impact and reporting outcomes for institutional review and external stakeholders.

Employer Relations & Outreach

  • Build and maintain relationships with non-profit employers to grow internship opportunities across a wide range of industries in partnership with the Director of Experiential Learning & Employer Outreach.
  • Conduct outreach to identify and cultivate new internship sites in alignment with student interests and academic programs

Communication & Collaboration

  • Serve as a resource and point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and external partners involved in internships.
  • Plan and implement communication strategies relating to internships (e.g., email campaigns, newsletters, social media, and website updates) in partnership with the Director of Student Success Marketing.
  • Collaborate across departments (Academic Affairs, Career Services, Advising, Student Employment, etc.) to support alignment with institutional goals and student success strategies.

Educational Program Development

  • Implement and oversee professional development initiatives for on-campus student employees, focusing on skill development, career readiness, and workplace expectations.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops, resume clinics, and reflection activities related to experiential learning and career preparation.
  • Integrate NACE career competencies and high-impact practices into internship and on-campus employment programs.

Administrative Support

  • Assist with organizing and managing logistics for events, including training sessions, internship fairs, and employer panels
  • Schedule venues, prepare materials, manage communications, and coordinate event follow-up.
  • Maintain shared calendars, schedule meetings, and manage internal documentation and filing systems.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and communication materials for stakeholders as needed.
  • Coordinate grant reimbursement requests and process submissions to ensure timely reimbursement and tracking.

Professional Development & Other Duties

  • Remain current on trends and best practices in internships, experiential education, and workforce readiness.
  • Assist in developing and updating internship-related policies, forms, and handbooks.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and program assessment for career and internship initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and university goals.

Education

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, or other related degree

Experience:

  • Experience in training and development, relationship management, or related internship and career development fields. Preferably in a higher education setting.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter who can work both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and detailed orientation.
  • Knowledge of career counseling and experiential education principles and practices.
  • Understanding of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, occupational, career and personal growth.
  • Understanding of the collegiate environment and culture, and ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students, parents and administrators.
  • Understanding of marketing strategies, processes, and resources.

The anticipated pay rate for this position is $50,000-$53,000 per year. This compensation is subject to change at the sole discretion of the university, based on institutional needs.

The pay range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted amount the university reasonably expects to pay for this position. The final pay rate will not be below the lowest pay rate listed herein.

Benefit-eligible positions offer excellent benefits including health, dental, life, vision, long term disability, a 403(b) retirement plan through TIAA, and tuition remission.

  • Holidays The university observes nine major holidays where the university is closed.
  • Tuition Assistance Tuition assistance for AU undergraduate courses is available to eligible employees and eligible family members beginning the term following one (1) year of regular, full-time employment. Tuition assistance for graduate programs paid at 60% for employee following Senior Leadership approval.
  • Tuition Exchange Consortiums AU is a member of the Tuition Exchange (TE) and the Council of Independent Colleges Tuition Exchange Program (CIC-TEP) enabling full-time employees and eligible family members to be eligible for tuition assistance at more than 600 universities nationwide. Eligibility for the CIC-TEP and TE programs is one (1) year of regular, full-time employment as of 8/31.
