Position Summary

Memorial 6 South consists of 26 private rooms. The types of patients seen on Memorial 6 South include: medical patients with an oncology diagnosis, medical patients admitted with hematological disorders, patients undergoing surgical or diagnostic oncology procedures, patients requiring administration of chemotherapy and/or blood/blood products, patients admitted for radium/iridium implants, post-ICU or step-down transfer patients whose primary diagnosis is oncology related and patients requiring IV conscious sedation for oncological procedures.

Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current, active licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.
- IV Certification, preferred.
- Complete required orientation for position.
- Proficient computer skills to complete tasks as required.
- Must be organized, able to effectively prioritize tasks and exhibit appropriate time management skills.
- Must be detail oriented while focusing on safe practices and quality care.
- Demonstrates effective communication.
- Effective appropriate and professional interactions with colleagues/physicians, patients and visitors.
Responsibilities & Expectations
- Demonstrates proficiency in basic nursing service, knowledge, and skills.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and applies evidence-based practice.
- Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or the situation.
- Identifies and reports changes in patients’ status to Registered Nurse for evaluation.
- Documents nursing activities accurately and in a timely manner.
- Implements the identified plan, coordinates care delivery, and employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
- Administers treatments and other direct care; prepares and administers medications as prescribed; observes and evaluates patients’ responses to medications and treatments; and identifies and promptly communicates adverse reactions to the Registered Nurse.
- Collects specimens as ordered.
- Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and students.
- Collaborates with patient, family, and others in the conduct of nursing practice.
- LPN is a patient advocate in conjunction with the other members of the healthcare team and fosters patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction.
- Attains knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice and applicable policies.
- Adhere to professional standards and guidelines, including ethical actions, relevant statutes, rules and regulations, during nursing practice.
