Fiber Splicer Job Description

A Fiber Splicer is a skilled technician responsible for installing, splicing, testing, and maintaining fiber optic cables used in telecommunications networks. They ensure high-quality connections that support internet, phone, and data services.

Key Responsibilities

• Splice fiber optic cables using fusion or mechanical splicing equipment
• Prepare and install fiber optic cables (aerial, underground, and inside buildings)
• Test fiber lines using equipment such as OTDRs (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers)
• Troubleshoot and repair damaged fiber optic systems
• Read and interpret network design plans, schematics, and blueprints
• Ensure proper cable handling, labeling, and documentation
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition
• Follow safety regulations and industry standards

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of fiber optic splicing techniques and equipment
• Ability to operate testing tools (OTDR, power meters, light sources)
• Understanding of telecommunications systems and infrastructure
• Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Physical ability to lift equipment and work in confined spaces or at heights
• High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in telecommunications or cable installation
• Valid driver’s license
• Experience with aerial lift equipment or bucket trucks

Work Environment

• Outdoor and indoor job sites
• May involve climbing poles, working in trenches, or confined spaces
• Travel to different job locations is often required
• May include overtime, nights, or emergency repair work

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
