About you and the role
August is seeking an Associate to join its fast-growing team in Los Angeles or New York. You will primarily be responsible for assisting with management of client engagements with an emphasis on crisis management, litigation support, and financial communications. You will develop written materials, gain exposure to and provide strategic communications counsel, and help shape the firm’s strategic direction and culture.
What you’ll bring
The ideal candidate will be a young professional with exceptional writing skills, an interest in crisis communications, litigation support, and financial communications, and, due to the high-stakes nature of our client engagements, a strong ability to get up to speed quickly and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Specific requirements are as follows:
- 1-3 years of internship or full-time, post-collegiate work experience preferred, ideally in strategic communications or another professional services capacity.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Strong interest in crisis communications, litigation support, and financial communications.
- Exceptional writing, research, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to manage projects and multitask while maintaining sharp attention to detail.
- Familiarity and comfort with utilizing research databases and social media platforms.
- Aptitude for producing high-quality work in high-stakes situations and within a short timeframe.
- Proficiency in Microsoft (Office, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
What you’ll do
- Conduct research assignments (including benchmarking research, case studies, media lists, reporter briefing packets, background research for new business meetings, etc.).
- Monitor for and circulate media coverage in real time for numerous client engagements.
- Prepare analyses based on research into media coverage and relevant industry trends.
- Support colleagues in developing written communications materials (including key messaging, talking points, press releases, Q&As, memos, presentations, announcement rollouts, pitch notes, etc.).
- Join and actively participate in internal and client-facing meetings.
- Participate in training sessions on our industries and practice areas, including how to develop your professional network and “pitch” the firm.
- Consistently engage with colleagues to seek new challenges that provide opportunities for growth and development.
- Embody an entrepreneurial mindset and approach in supporting August’s internal, administrative, and marketing functions.
