Estimated Appointment End Date (Continuous if Blank) Full/Part-Time Full time Job Type Regular Compensation Job Description Title: Assistant Attorney General Unit: Consumer Protection/Antitrust and Complex Litigation Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and qualifications FLSA Status: Exempt Location: Oklahoma City, OK or Tulsa, OK Schedule: Full-time Position Summary: The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Unit (CPU) is responsible for enforcing state and federal laws that protect consumers from fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices. Assistant Attorneys General engage in civil litigation to enforce the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act, the Oklahoma Antitrust Reform Act, and relevant state statutes. Qualified candidates must have outstanding legal judgment and be able to effectively and professionally research, prepare, analyze and understand complex information and legal issues. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Essential Functions: · Conduct civil investigations drawn from CPU complaint data and/or information from multistate working groups, to include drafting and issuing civil investigative demands, reviewing information produced in response, and taking sworn statements · Conduct legal research and draft legal memorandums to support case preparation and strategy for CPU enforcement actions · Prepare and file civil enforcement actions; conduct civil discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests, document review, selecting and preparing experts, and taking depositions; draft motions and briefing; represent the office in court hearings and settlement conferences; and take matters to trial as needed · Participate in multistate investigations of potential wrongful conduct by national or regional businesses, including regular conference calls, document review, and evaluation of proposed settlement terms and making recommendations to the Attorney General · Collaborate with counterparts in other states to investigate and, as necessary, litigate unlawful practices on both a regional and national scale · Prepare weekly reports updating the Attorney General and the leadership team on current and upcoming cases and other developments · Other duties as assigned This position may require some travel, both within and outside the State. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be a licensed attorney and have a minimum of five years of experience in the practice of law. Strong writing and oral advocacy skills are required. Preference may be given to candidates with supervisory experience and/or litigation experience. All applicants must agree in writing to complete, and satisfactorily pass, a background investigation.
