Make parts that fly. Step into a cell with Citizen Swiss lathes and bar feeders, dial in guide bushings and tooling, and turn out flawless, small-diameter aerospace components to exacting tolerances. This role blends meticulous setup, hands-on troubleshooting, and unwavering adherence to AS9100 quality practices.
What you’ll do each shift- Set up and run Swiss-type CNC lathes (sliding headstock) with guide bushings, tooling packages, and automated bar feeders.
- Load programs, establish work and tool offsets, verify the setup, and prove out prior to production.
- Produce complex parts from bar stock that meet tight tolerance and surface finish requirements for aerospace applications.
- Interpret detailed blueprints, drawings, and documented processes using strong GD&T knowledge.
- Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections using precision hand metrology tools.
- Adjust offsets, tooling, and machine parameters to sustain part quality throughout the run.
- Troubleshoot issues like tool wear, chatter, and dimensional drift; implement corrective actions.
- Accurately record production and inspection data per the quality management system.
- Keep machines and workspace clean and organized in line with 5S standards.
- Follow all safety guidelines, AS9100 requirements, and company procedures.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3 years operating and setting up CNC Swiss machines (Citizen, Star, Tsugami, or comparable).
- Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T fluency.
- Experience with Fanuc or similar CNC controls.
- Hands-on knowledge of bar-fed machining and guide bushing configurations.
- Background machining aerospace materials: titanium, Inconel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Experience in AS9100 or ISO-certified aerospace environments.
- Ability to edit and optimize G-code at the control.
- Familiarity with multi-axis Swiss platforms and live tooling.
- Comfort with automated bar feeders and part catchers.
- Knowledge of first article inspection (FAI) practices.
- Exceptional precision and attention to detail.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
- Capability to coordinate multiple tools and operations in a single setup.
- Self-driven, able to work independently while upholding quality.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Standing for extended periods.
- Ability to lift 40–50 lbs.
- Frequent handling of small, high-precision parts.
- Aerospace manufacturing setting with precision equipment, typical machining noise, and exposure to cutting fluids.
