EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or GED equivalent. One year work experience, preferably in eye-related field. Previous work experience in ophthalmology preferred.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Must acquire certification of Certified Ophthalmic Assistant within one year of employment in order to maintain employment. CPR certification.

Essential Functions
- Performs basic preliminary testing including but not limited to obtaining visual acuity, lensometry, measure and record intraocular pressure using tonopen, administers topical eye medications per physician order in preparation for ophthalmic exam, obtains vital signs as needed documenting in EMR.
- Records relevant detailed patient medical/ocular history, confirms allergies and updates medications.
- Performs Automated Visual Field Testing. Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot visual field equipment problems and begin repair process following procedures.
- Ensures exam rooms and lanes are stocked with needed supplies.
- Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, required continuing education, and CPR certification during employment.
- Escorts patients to exam rooms and screening areas in the department
- Demonstrates dedication to patient service and care by serving as a role model in delivering quality patient care to all patient at all times.
- Performs other job related duties incidental to the work described here in and based on a non certified ophthalmic assistant.
