Position Summary
This role will support product design and development activities, with a primary focus on a Closed Loop Control initiative aimed at improving product manufacturability. The engineer will work in a cross-functional environment, partnering closely with R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality to ensure designs are optimized for production readiness.
Responsibilities
- Support design development and refinement through CAD modeling, drawing updates, and interpretation of engineering specifications.
- Apply GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure critical dimensions meet functional and manufacturing requirements.
- Perform Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to proactively identify and mitigate product and process risks.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to transition new designs into production, troubleshoot floor issues, and improve yield and reliability based on production feedback.
- Support CNC grinding setup, optimization, and mechanical troubleshooting.
- Design, develop, analyze, and troubleshoot components during research and product development to translate discoveries into marketable products.
- Design engineering studies to investigate specific life science questions within the medical/surgical field of expertise.
- Support product research and development activities and assist with technical needs for clinical trials.
- Participate in design reviews, cross-functional technical discussions, and rigorous root-cause investigations to drive continuous improvement.
- Document technical analyses and support the formal engineering deliverables required for strict design control and product development processes.
- Translate research discoveries into usable and marketable products.
Required Qualifications
- Education Required: Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience (or 2 years with a Master's degree).
- Design Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (DFMEA).
- Manufacturing Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (MFMEA).
- Understanding and application of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and tolerance slacking.
- CAD/understanding of drawings (Creo Surface Modeling is a plus).
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on familiarity or troubleshooting experience with CNC grinding processes.
- Previous background in medical device manufacturing, aerospace, or high-precision components governed by strict quality systems.
