The Role
Join our creative, collaborative Book Production Team as a Production Assistant/Coordinator (title dependent on experience), training directly with experienced pros including the department Director. You’ll learn every step of the book production process from connecting authors with their Developmental Editors and Proofreaders to shepherding the book into Interior Design; you won't be doing editing, proofreading, or designing, but will manage each book project as it moves through these stages and off to the printer for publication. This is an immersive, hands-on role for someone with exceptional top 1% attention-to-detail and interpersonal communication and people skills. You must be tech-savvy, smart as a whip, patient, friendly, and have a love for books and the authors who write them.
What You'll Do
- Manage inbox volume and kindly and quickly answer author emails
- Use HubSpot to process book projects from one step to the next
- Collaborate/manage/delegate book projects with Developmental Editors, Proofreaders, and Interior Layout Designers
- Proactively problem-solve on unique author problems and concerns
- Be ready to hop on a phone/Zoom call with an author to efficiently work through any issues
- Support authors with patience, enthusiasm, and professionalism, ensuring their experience is positive and creatively fulfilling.
What We're Looking For
- Experience in Book Production and project management
- Expert-level experience with HubSpot or another comparable CRM
- Exceptional writing skills and a literary sensibility
- An accountable, friendly, patient, good-natured, and hard-working demeanor
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build long-term, trust-based relationships with authors.
- Comfort in a client-facing role and enthusiasm for guiding authors through the publishing process.
