Family Office Controller
Position Summary
A growing single-family office is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead and build out the accounting, reporting, and operational infrastructure across a diverse portfolio of investments, entities, and personal assets. This role will be responsible for establishing scalable financial processes, enhancing controls, overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, and partnering directly with principals and senior leadership on strategic financial matters.
The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, detail-oriented, and experienced managing complex financial environments involving investment entities, trusts, partnerships, real estate holdings, and operating businesses. This individual must be comfortable operating in a highly dynamic environment while building structure, improving workflows, and implementing best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting and financial operations for the family office, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, cash management, and financial reporting
- Build, document, and improve accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and operational workflows
- Develop scalable processes to support the continued growth and complexity of the family office structure
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple entities, trusts, partnerships, LLCs, and investment vehicles
- Prepare consolidated financial statements, cash flow reporting, and customized reporting packages for principals and senior leadership
- Coordinate with external tax advisors, auditors, legal counsel, banks, and investment managers
- Manage investment accounting activities, including tracking capital calls, distributions, performance reporting, and portfolio reconciliations
- Oversee treasury and liquidity management, including banking relationships, wire approvals, and cash forecasting
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning initiatives
- Implement and optimize accounting systems, reporting tools, and automation initiatives to improve efficiency and transparency
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, tax, and reporting requirements across entities and jurisdictions
- Assist with special projects including entity structuring, real estate transactions, estate planning coordination, and strategic initiatives
- Hire, mentor, and manage accounting and operational staff as the platform grows
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA strongly preferred
- 8 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably within a family office, private investment firm, private equity, hedge fund, or high-net-worth environment
- Strong understanding of partnership accounting, investment accounting, and multi-entity consolidations
- Experience building or enhancing accounting processes and operational infrastructure
- Knowledge of trusts, LLCs, estate structures, and private investment vehicles preferred
- Strong systems and technology experience, including accounting platforms and process automation tools
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and confidential information
- Strong communication and relationship management skills with a service-oriented mindset
- Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Preferred Experience
- Experience within a single-family office or ultra-high-net-worth environment
- Exposure to private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, real estate, or direct investments
- Experience managing outside service providers and cross-functional advisors
- Proven ability to create structure and improve operational efficiency in a growing organization
Salary : $200,000 - $300,000
