Our client, a well-established organization within the insurance industry, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager for a contract engagement. This individual will oversee core accounting operations, manage a small team, and support month-end and financial reporting activities during a critical period for the organization.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, prior people management experience, and a background working within insurance or related financial services environments.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger activity, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close processes.
- Manage and review the work of accounting staff, providing guidance, oversight, and support to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages.
- Support insurance-specific accounting functions, including premium accounting, claims-related accruals, reserves, statutory reporting support, and related reconciliations as applicable.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with audit requests and coordinate with external auditors and internal stakeholders.
- Analyze financial data and investigate variances, trends, and discrepancies.
- Partner cross-functionally with finance, operations, and senior leadership teams to support business initiatives and reporting needs.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
- Support ad hoc projects related to system implementations, process improvements, and regulatory reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 6 years of accounting experience, including prior supervisory or management responsibility.
- Insurance industry accounting experience is required.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting processes.
- Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Proficiency in Excel and ERP/accounting systems.
- CPA or progress toward certification is a plus.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Salary : $110,000 - $140,000
