Job Description
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Phlebotomist for a full-time contract opportunity in Stony Brook, NY. This position is responsible for collecting blood specimens, ensuring patient comfort and safety, maintaining specimen integrity, and supporting laboratory operations in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience working in a hospital or laboratory setting and demonstrate strong patient interaction, specimen handling, and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures on patients of all ages
- Properly label, process, and transport specimens according to established protocols
- Verify patient information and maintain accurate documentation
- Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and quality standards
- Maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies
- Provide professional and compassionate patient care during specimen collection
- Collaborate with laboratory and clinical staff to support patient testing needs
- Follow all organizational policies and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one (1) year of phlebotomy experience in a hospital or laboratory setting
- Current Phlebotomy Certification or Medical Assisting Certification
- Strong communication and patient service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Position Details
- Full-time schedule
- Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM
- Long-term contract assignment through June 2027
- Competitive hourly pay at $22.00 per hour
