We are seeking an experienced Behavioral Health Nurse Supervisor to join a dynamic hospital-based behavioral health team. Position Overview
As a Nurse Supervisor, you will provide operational and clinical oversight for nursing services within a behavioral health department. You will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care while promoting staff development, regulatory compliance, and quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, guidance, and day-to-day supervision of nursing personnel within the behavioral health service line.
- Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, education, and performance management.
- Collaborate with physicians, social workers, therapists, and hospital leadership to coordinate patient care and departmental operations.
- Monitor clinical practices to ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based standards.
- Participate in staffing coordination, scheduling, and resource allocation to support patient care needs.
- Assist with quality improvement initiatives, risk management activities, and patient safety programs.
- Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff managing complex psychiatric and behavioral health cases.
- Support onboarding and orientation of new nursing team members.
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to departmental reporting and performance metrics.
- Foster a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and exceptional patient care.
Qualifications
- Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Behavioral Health nursing experience in an inpatient hospital setting.
- Prior supervisory, leadership, charge nurse, educator, or management experience within Behavioral Health.
- Strong understanding of psychiatric nursing principles, crisis intervention, and patient safety practices.
- Experience overseeing inpatient psychiatric units, behavioral health programs, or acute mental health services.
Education & Experience Qualifications
Option 1:
- Master's Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 5 years of nursing experience
- At least 3 years in a supervisory, leadership, or teaching capacity
OR
Option 2:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 6 years of nursing experience
- At least 4 years in a supervisory, leadership, or teaching capacity
