Software Engineer

Atlas Public Policy is looking for a highly qualified Software Engineer to join our exciting policy tech firm. Atlas equips businesses and policymakers to make strategic, informed decisions that serve the public interest. We build analytical tools and dashboards using powerful, accessible technology, and offer expert advisory and convening services to tackle the pressing issues of the day. Our current areas of focus are electric transportation, building decarbonization, clean energy manufacturing, disinformation, water infrastructure, and other aspects of climate policy.

A qualified person must be sharp, ambitious, passionate, and capable of adapting to the evolving demands at Atlas. This position can be based in Washington, DC or fully remote while working regular East Coast hours. Staff in Washington, DC currently follow a hybrid work model with at least three days in the office.

The Work

• Develop web applications using the React and Flask frameworks.
• Design web applications, websites, and Microsoft Power BI dashboards using Figma.
• Orchestrate automations leveraging Microsoft Azure tools such as AI Foundry and Power Automate.
• Conduct client-facing interactions such as requirements gathering sessions, design workshops, and product demos.
• Build and maintain Atlas product websites developed in WordPress.
• Design and build intuitive, data-rich dashboards using Microsoft Power BI, such like Hamilton, EV Hub, and Buildings Hub, for a broad set of audiences with a focus on user experience.
• Assist in maintaining existing technical infrastructure through tasks like proactive monitoring, debugging website and dashboard related failures, and updating technical documentation.

Desired Qualifications

• At least three years of work experience building end-to-end client features or web applications.
• At least two years of experience with JavaScript front-end libraries, including React.
• At least 1 year of experience building, maintaining, and integrating with REST APIs.
• At least two years of experience in user-experience design, including requirements gathering and building wireframes.
• At least two years of experience in client engagement.
• Experience with Microsoft Power BI or similar data visualization/dashboarding software (e.g., Tableau, Looker, or Qlik), Typescript, SQL, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or similar.
• Strong interest in developing data-driven visualizations and tools.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong communication skills.
• Ambitious, self-directed, but knows when to pause and seek assistance.
• U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States. Atlas is unable to sponsor work visas for this position.

Time Commitment: Full time

Compensation:  

• Annual salary of $90,000 – $110,000
• Additional expected 10% of salary contributed to a pre-tax retirement account
• Annual profit-sharing bonus between estimated 5% and 25%, based on employee and company performance
