Atlas Public Policy is looking for a highly qualified Policy Associate to join our exciting policy tech firm. Atlas equips businesses and policymakers to make strategic, informed decisions that serve the public interest. We build analytical tools and dashboards using powerful, accessible technology, and offer expert advisory and convening services to tackle the pressing issues of the day. Our current areas of focus are electric transportation, building decarbonization, clean energy manufacturing, disinformation, water infrastructure, and other aspects of climate policy.


A qualified person must be sharp, ambitious, passionate, and capable of adapting to the evolving demands at Atlas. This position is based in Washington, DC and staff in DC follow a hybrid work model.

The Work

  • Support quantitative research and analyses on electric transportation, building decarbonization, and other areas of climate policy.
  • Lead the writing of issue briefs, research reports, online data stories, and weekly digests using original or synthesis research.
  • Contribute to proposals and work scopes for new and recurring customers.
  • Follow important developments in the vehicle, buildings, and climate policy space to contribute to ongoing work and enhance staff knowledge.
  • Participate in and present at meetings with customers and other organizations actively working with Atlas.
  • Pitch in at all levels to assist staff as needed on multiple projects concurrently.


Desired Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in public policy, history, STEM, economics, or related field;
  • 2 years of relevant professional experience related to energy and/or climate policy required, including substantial use of quantitative methods to inform decision-making and/or policy. Experience in transportation electrification topics preferred. (Applicants may substitute a Master’s degree for one year of experience).
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and research skills;
  • Intermediate knowledge Python or R required
  • Experience with data analysis and computational or statistical modeling is desired
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong communication skills;
  • Comfort with Microsoft 365 products.
  • Strong interest in realizing Atlas’s mission;
  • Ambitious, self-directed, but knows when to pause and seek assistance; and
  • U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States or other U.S. work authorization (please specify details in your application. Atlas does not offer sponsorship for permanent residency).


Starting Date: As soon as possible

Time Commitment: Full time

Compensation:  

  • Annual salary of $70,000 – $90,000
  • Additional expected 10% of salary contributed to a pre-tax retirement account
  • Annual profit-sharing bonus between estimated 5% and 25%, based on employee and company performance
  • Fully-covered platinum health insurance plan along with dental and vision insurance for employee and children
  • 15 days of vacation plus company-wide holiday between Christmas and New Year’s Eve
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance

  • 1-month sabbatical every five years
