Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures, including general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, endodontics, prosthodontics, and other specialties.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly following infection control protocols and aseptic techniques.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including 3D scans when applicable, ensuring accurate medical imaging for diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Manage patient records efficiently using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy and data security.
- Perform vital signs assessments and document medical history accurately to support comprehensive patient care.
- Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, confirming patient information, and managing medical documentation and records.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment while adhering to infection control standards and anatomy knowledge to ensure safety for patients and staff.
- Assist with medical coding and documentation related to dental procedures, ensuring accuracy for billing purposes.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, treatment plans, and post-treatment care to enhance their understanding of dental health.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant or in a similar dental clinic setting with knowledge of dental terminology and procedures.
- Proficiency in using EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; familiarity with Epic or other medical documentation platforms is a plus.
- Strong understanding of infection control practices, aseptic technique, anatomy knowledge, and sterilization procedures.
- Ability to operate dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and other medical imaging tools safely and effectively.
- Excellent communication skills to interact confidently with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics, while demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently during various dental procedures with a focus on four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and medical coding processes related to dental care.
